They really try too hard imo, Campfire songs was a great album though. AC are very cool in theory to me, but the music doesn't really stand up much.

honestly. i don't really want to hate on them. but i do have them on permanent IGGY. & that little meta-cult behind them too i think is more than a little weird. but it is all good to each her own.
peace.

I dig the new AC. I really like What Would I Want? Sky
it's a rad jam.
I think it's neat that they took all kinds of world musics and encorporated them into their style for many, many years. Their old albums were great.
Than they started getting into electronic stuff, which is neat, but Strawberry Jam and afterwards really don't hold a flame to older albums...
but needless to say i still dig it. it makes you feel nice.

As mush as I don't like most of their stuff, I cum whenever I see this video of the original version of Brothersport.

If all their stuff was like that then I would be sooooooo down.

Never understood the Cult of Animal Collective myself.
I can remember hearing them a long time ago and thinking they were alright, but not nearly as AMAZING as people often make them out to be... but then I heard MPP and hated it... it was just fucking annoying music (IMHO)!
A lot of people (Pitchfork) loved it, though...

I like Pitchfork.

They tend to have a bunch of shitty bands, but when you clear all those away it's pretty cool.
www.Pitchfork.tv is definitely awesome

I might check it out...
I've never been a fan of music journalism, excluding zines (usually), is all... But ESPECIALLY "Indie music" journalism...

Feels is an amazing album, regardless of hype or hipster worth. It really is genuinely good...It has a good flow from start to finish, catchy melodies, and some really cool experimentation IMO. I think AC has steadily been declining in both their songwriting and aesthetics recently though. They're totally appealing to the pitchfork-worshipping crowd and making less inspiring music. MPP is decent but it gets old REALLY fast. They are really good at manipulating samples and making cool music with them but I'm not inspired by them anymore. They're using what has worked for their indie-cred in the past and capitalizing on it. Not that that's a bad business ethic, but the music definitely suffers IMO.
If you have your doubts about AC or disregard them because Pitchfork idolizes them, check out Feels. They had their shit together on that album and it shows.

I support this. Feels is amazing. So is Sung Tongs. But, that record might even get a little to weird for most people.
I love both Strawberry Jam & Merriweather, but musically they're not quite as creative as feels or sung tongs. They just really like arpeggios. But Noah's vocal melodies, and lots of Avey's as well off of those albums are enough for me to fall in love with the band over and over again. The lyrics too.

okay dudez. i'm open-minded. i am downloading both of these but if they suck it will only deepen my (latent) animus for them as i have pretty much done a good job of not hearing their music up to this point.

I don't know the meaning.
All I can say is, I never had a problem w/ AC (having had a reasonably good impression based on what I'd heard--I believe this WAS "Feel-era", btw), but then I heard MPP and thought it was terrible and overrated...
That's not to say people who disagree are Pitchfork zombies, but I still didn't like it, and I think their gushing over it is ridiculous!
