Sad to hear but should have saw it coming. Every dj ive seen recently in clubs have been using the standard to Pioneer cdj with serato or cds. But they should think about all the hip hop djs in the world that use only technics and get the same results as cds. Guess its just the worldwide shift to digital mediums.

IDK. i sort of kind of blame hip-hop for this: you don't really see rappers w/ DJ's anymore, or you don't hear scratches/vocal samples in songs anymore: i think DJ culture has been in decline in hip-hop for sometime now, w/ the decline moving in tandem w/ the overall decline of hip-hop in general this past decade.

DJ culture seems to continue to be way stronger in Techno & et alia forms or dance music. i can kind of see how software like Ableton & Serato & et alia digital mediums have supplanted TT in many ways but CDJS seems stupid. i'd rather see someone DJ w/ a laptop than CDJS. & w/ compact discs on the decline, it seems like Laptop DJ'ing may supplant that.

i've have never actually owned a pair of 1200's & to be honest i'd rather have a pair of Vestax PDX-2000's. but since i normally see used 12's go for about $500 on craigslist, w/this news, i may finally have to invest in a pair soon.

really my hope is that even if 1200's are discontinued, perhaps there will still be higher-end direct drive TT's on the market. & w/ the slow but steady trend of vinyl records, i hope this is an isolated incidence & not a bad omen.

Every live rap performance I've seen in the last year has had a DJ on the stage.

I'm shocked that they'd discontinue the 1200s. Even if sales are down some, it seems like there will always be a market for the 1200s.
