Help me find an amp! (Please)

I'm looking to get a new amp. I play indie (Modest Mouse, The National, Cymbals Eat Guitars) shoegaze (MBV, Depreciation Guild) post-rock (Sigur Ros, EitS) and am hoping to move into more experimental/noise territory as well. I think I'd like something with really good cleans that takes pedals well (don't really care about the amps dirty channel)
Thanks for the help

Price range? Tube or Solid-State preference? Single-coils or Humbuckers?
It depends on what you're using.

Price range like $800 (I can go a bit higher if necessary), I'm open to buying used as well.
My setup is a Carvin DC145 with Mellowtone singing tree, EHX memory boy, Vox 847a Wah and I plan on getting a devi fuzz soon, although I'm not sure which.
I prefer tube, but if there are good SS suggestions (something like a JC 120) I'm open to them.
For wattage, I'm looking for something that can gig but that's not sososososoo loud that it'd be hard to just practice with.

A Fender Blues Jr. could work for that plus it's really cheap and LOUD, though a Fender Blues Deluxe is a better option if you are willing to pay more.

Seconding the Twin Reverb. Great for the sparkly cleans and I've heard that it can handle pedals really well.
I own a Blues Jr. and it can get loud for a 15-Watt amp. They are versatile amps, but if you want them to sound as best as they can you should get some BillM mods to them.

I lurve my JC-60. Awesome for cleans w/ modulation
For dirty stuff i prefer toobz but the JC is hard to beat as far as solid state amps goes.

thanks for the suggestions!
my only concern with amps like the Twin Reverb and the JC 120 is will they be too big/heavy (weight)/loud for a college dorm?

Being in a dorm, my stock Blues Jr. is sometimes "too loud" when barely at 2.

if you're worried about volume in a dorm...see if you can find an old silverface princeton reverb. If you don't really care and plan on playing loud and live a lot, get a twin or super reverb.

Perhaps a Deluxe Reverb if the Twin is overkill? Deluxes are 22 watts I believe.
Or you could get a 15 watt Blues Jr. or Blackheart Handsome Devil.
Or an original 5 watt Fender Vibro Champ
