How would you guys recommend getting into DIY pedal stuff? I know nothing at all about electronics but I'm really interested in modding and maybe building one day

Devi beat me to Beavis. For pedal building you could try out some BYOC kits my first time even holding an iron and components was with their Leeds Fuzz and it worked perfect first try. Their directions are clear as day and have a great board if you need help with anything.

daydreamer, I agree with what has been posted so far. There's plenty of great info on the beavis site. I'd even consider getting a beavis board. It's an easy way to learn how each type of components work. I think I may be getting one for Christmas. Also, the first time I did a bit of soldering was on a byoc kit. The instructions are even more simple than Lego instructions.

If you're strapped for cash, build an APC from scratch. Lots of info on the web. You can learn something about reading schematics, ordering parts, translating them onto the breadboard, and eventually putting the iron to 'em, and all on the (very) cheap.
