What do you fellers use? I currently only have a TGD which sounds awesome for crazy stuff but I'm looking for a tamer distortion and overdrive as well as a sweet fuzz. What's out there?

I know it might sound kinda weird but, DOD Supra distortion with a starve can be kinda cool for a fuzz.

My bassist is using Supermassive black hole ----> Sub Decay Liquid Sunshine
turn on the sub decay and it gets rid of the "deviness" I guess? gets more muff like. if you wanna keep the low end can always run a DI You can never make the sound guy work too hard.

My favorite pedals on bass are in order of placement on my board:

Amp < Tronographic Rusty Box < Dwarfcraft Eau Claire Thunder < Malekko Germanium B:Assmaster < Bass

All have healthy bass response and sound good stacked into each other.

They are all great on guitar, too, so they can serve double duty.

I personally swear by the (yes, discontinued) Cherry Pop and regular old B:assmaster.

Right now I'm using the Dark Boost for just a tiny bit of hair on the signal. I use a DHA VT-1 when I want a tubey overdrive for my bass. I use a Landmine for the crushing distortion.

the last show i played, i used
bass>ibanez deluxe tubescreamer (set to "turbo" mode)>mellowtone wolf computer>boss GE-7>amp

the tube screamer in turbo mode actually loses almost no low end, and does a pretty good overdrive.
the wolf computer loses some lows, but it's so versatile you can find settings for a lot of sounds
GE-7 (and i assume GEB-7) are really fun for slamming the front end of an amp with too much signal, or for boosting already present noise and feedback.

mind you, this was a band with no guitarist, so i wasn't really restricted to the low end, or worried about retaining it.

i used the tubescreamer with everything cranked for a growly overdrive, the wolfcomputer set to a thick fuzz, both of them for a scrambly noisy fuzz, and occasionally added the GE-7 to boost only one of the high frequencies and cut everything else for noisiness.

my ideal set up includes the above mentioned tronographic rusty box, and it would replace the borrowed tubescreamer. I would find a new fuzz for a "thick fuzz" sound, and switch the wolf computer to a purely glitchy/scrambley role. i would keep the GE-7, and maybe add another (or really any EQ i could find cheap). before i had the wolf computer i was using an MXR dyna comp between the bass and the tube screamer to push everything hard into feedback.

I'm gassing for the Catalinbread SFT

My bassist is using my Shiva and it's freegin' amazing!

I use a vintage RAT on my bass... it might not have the best low end response, but man, does it ever make my Jazz bass GROWL!
For a while I was using a Radial ABY, running a mock stereo setup, with the RAT into one amp and the clean bass into another so that I could have thump as well as fuzz, but I quit using that rig cuz I got sick of hauling so much gear around.

I forgot about the SFT. Looks spiffy. Is the Tech 21 Sansamp deal any good?

I use a Katana Sound Supper Bass Fuzz with the octave off and it blended about 50/50 with my clean sound, this comes out as a very gritty and thick sound that works for just about every style I throw at it from blues/americana to funk/rock to doom/metal.

I play a Russian Big Muff in my rig. I'm thinking about a B:Assmaster but don't think I can contain it.
