I want to get into some effects/fuzz heavy shoegaze/90s alt rock or whatever with lots of fuzz and effects that'd be awesome.

I tried My Bloody Valentine but I found them a little on the raw side. I really like Curve's shoegazey stuff(like the song Cuckoo) and some Cocteau Twins' stuff.

my bloody valentine too raw? just kidding haha. It's in the topic that HT posted, but Ringo Deathstarr is an awesome contemporary shoegaze group. A Sunny Day In Glasgow are great as well. They just dropped a new record and it sounds AWESOME. It's not quite "shoegaze" per se, but there are some elements of the genre on there. Lots of effects laden stuff on there and cool arrangements. Since you listed Curve, I'm sure you've listened to Doppleganger...I just got into that album and it is sweet. Swervedriver is pretty great, particularly Mezcal Head. gahh, I wish I was near my itunes library, I'd give you a bunch more suggestions I just can't think straight right now...I'll try and remember to browse when I get home and I'll give some more ideas

oh, and +1 on Slowdive, BUT there's very little fuzz on there if that's what you're interested...much more cathedral-like reverb clean guitar stuff. Great band though, check 'em out!

I second A Sunny Day In Glasgow. Def not shoegaze, but have some really cool electronic and effects driven walls of sound with beautiful whisper lyrics. New album, Ashes Grammar, is awesome.

The first Brian Jonestown Massacre album, Methodrone, I feel like is one of the most underrated shoegaze albums. I really like Fleeting Joys and Astrobrite, though if you didn't like My Bloody Valentine, prob won't like those. Kinda hard to recommend shoegaze if you don't like MBV. Maybe Asobi Seksu's Citrus.

Also, check out Atlas Sound's Let The Blind Lead Those Who Can See But Cannot Feel. Again, not shoegaze, but a lot of effects within a massive wall of verby sound. He also just came out with a new album that is supposed to be great, but I have yet to listen.

For general fuzzy rock shiz there's a lot of sweet stuff that people label as "lofi" like Pavement, The Olivia Tremor Control, The Microphones, and Neautral Milk Hotel. Those have a lot of acoustic elements to them (other than Pavement), but some really cool use of fuzz--especially Neutral Milk's Aeroplane Over the Sea. A lot of current lofi stuff might also be cool, like Wavves and Times New Viking--but that's more just pop songs with absolute all fidelity stripped away.

I'd also recommend one of my favorite bands, Bardo Pond, specifically their album Lapsed. They linger more toward the psych rock side of things, but that album opens with prob my favorite shoegaze song of all time. Plus if you're looking for a band that generally worships fuzz, thats the one. Tons and tons and tons of muffy fuzz upon fuzz.

Definitely get "Let the Blind...", definitely one of my favourite albums evar . The new album was good, but i didn't kick the shit out of me like the first one. Panda Bear had to go and muck up "Walkabout", I wish he made good music when no with AC.

Person Pitch is prob one of my favorite albums, personally.

Listened to Logos and really like it, but yeah, not as voyeuristic as the first. I really like the Panda Bear track a lot, but the track with Laetitia Sadler (Stereolab) is just out of control.

which MBV album did you listen to? They changed their sound a lot over the years. I'm a Sunny Sunday Smile sort of guy myself.

I couldn't stand Person Pitch I think what he does is really interesting, with the sampler and drums and all, and his voice is amazing, but I really don't like much of the music he makes.

Have you heard Walkabout before Panda was on it? It was a lot different.

I always thought of the Cocteau Twins as dream pop, not shoegaze....
