Help recreating a specific NIN fuzz (identify, not build)

Hello all, longtime lurker, first time poster. So I know there's been many threads all over the place discussing NIN fuzz but my question is much more specific. I've been searching for months for a way to recreate the fuzz sound on the NIN song 'Only' off of the album With Teeth that can be heard here at 01:39 (
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xgt_WDjbO0o) I'm pretty sure it's either (or a combination of) a synth or a guitar with several fuzz pedals passed through something like a filterbank, but I'm looking for a way to recreate the sound on a guitar with pedals, if such a tone is even possible. I own a Zvex Machine and would appreciate any help identifying the several pedals I could use to pull this off in real time. Thanks in advance.

it sounds likes a synth with high white noise added or some weird distortion. like you said, its probably just run through lots of filters.
id check out the wmd geiger counter to maybe get something like the noise:

someone was actually telling me today that he uses the big muff Pi with tone wicker.
