This intrigues me.

I remember seeing a video of this band, where it went from a breakdown into a country song, but I have yet to find it again. Help?

Friend had me listen to Colors. The lack of subtlety to that record was pretty hard to take. Too much prog wankery for me.

New album isn't AS proggy. It seriously has everygenre of music in it tho...

@Pirate: When you listen to Alaska again, go for Backwards Marathon, Medicine Wheel, The Primer (in this order).
I think Selkies is overrated, for me The Primer is the best song on Alaska!
@smile_man:
The breakdown-country song's name is Ants of the Sky afaik.
I'd recommend the song "Sun of Nothing", too. It builds up very well, I like it
I will buy the new album asap, still not in stores in Germany

Ants of the sky? (in 2 parts because it's long)

I'm a big fan. Colors was a HUGE record for me, I still listen to it on a regular basis. I've dug everything else (s/t, circus, alaska)
The new one isn't really doing it for me. I dunno.
Blake rarely reaches a groove, just a lot of proggy drumming with blast beats. Nothing that really reaches what he did on Foam born or prequel to the sequel.
I really dig Paul showing his Opeth clean/jazzy influences a bit more this time around, but the heavier parts were a bit too strongbad for my tastes.
I'm hoping it will grow on me and I'll be forced eat my words.
On a related note...they are going on tour with Cynic and Devin Townsend!!!
