i'm back!

long story short: it turns out that the physical and mental health problems that incapacitated me for all of 2022 were probably sequelae to a asymptomatic or low-grade case of COVID. i was fucked up. i could barely think, barely take care of myself, had balance problems bad enough that i couldn't put on a pair of shorts standing up, and had weird memory problems where i'd randomly forget e.g. the password to my work laptop or the key code for the door of my building. i forced myself to get better enough that i could see Sigur Ros in May of 2022, but the physical problems persisted till this spring and my brain only started working normally in the last few weeks. if i hadn't been able to work from home all this time i'd have been totally fucked.
i just started playing guitar again in the last 2 weeks, and am working back into it gradually while trying to use the need to relearn things to fine-tune some aspects of my style. i just ordered a used Squier Mustang Bass, and had to order a replacement volume pedal because i tried to use the Ernie Ball revamp kit and failed. it was hell. six hours of trying to finagle slippery pieces of Kevlar cord in spaces where there's no room for your fingers. when i finally got it done, it wouldn't pass signal from the output though the tuner output still worked. i said "fuck you, i'm not doing this again," so it's off to the recycling center. i'm also looking for a couple of specific types of pedal for specific functions even though listening to fuzz demos makes my head hurt.
anyway, i just thought i'd say hello and let y'all know that i'm actually doing OK for the first time in a couple of years, and am beginning to emit strange vibrations from my apartment again. hope you've all been OK.
