I need a spaced echo

It’s a gift for a friend. We were in a band years ago and he used my Boss RE-20 with his Rhodes, and he made those two work so well together—it ended up being a big part of “our sound.” I want to give him a gift and he hinted that he wished he had that pedal to mess with again.
I still have that RE-20 but he’d have to pry it from my dead fingers, so I want to get him something of his own. He was particularly skilled at subtly using the Twist function (which he taught me is useful if you’re careful with it), as well as the expression pedal. He used the reverb well too.
So I was thinking I could get him the new RE-2, but since it stretches my budget a liiiiittle more than I can swing it (i’ll swing it if that’s the best option, he deserves the best) I wanted to ask about other options? I cap out at $200, but if we decide together that spending more will hit the spot, I can and will do that.
