also any idea on how to convert the mp4 to a listenable audio format (mp3, wav, aac, whatever)?

ffmpeg... or ffmpeg inside Audacity if you don't want to deal with the command line.
(Foobar plays mp4 as audio no problem, for what it's worth.)

Update to the above! I was listening to the 8+ hours on Vangelis noodling yesterday and decided I, too, wanted it in more manageable chunks. So I imported the whole thing into Audacity and lopped it into "album-sized" pieces and output those to mp3. Grab 'em here: https://we.tl/t-UoA3AqMlgx
Caveat emptor: I didn't spend a huge amount of time thinking about where to split it up, just eyeballed a change in the waveform in the zone I wanted to cut. Either V himself or whoever compiled this liked their ambient mixes like I do, with nice, long crossfades, so sometime one just has to pick a point where a new motif comes in and live with it.

My brother designerized an album cover image for it. I hope you like it!
