MrNovember's Gear Adventures

So I posted quickly over in the gasalcoholics thread about this, but I figured I'd share the story in a new thread.

About a week ago, I came across a deal I just couldn't pass up. An older gentleman was getting out of music and put his entire gear collection up for sale and he wanted to sell it all as one lot; I pretty much immediately contacted him. The next day when I showed up, he laughed at my car (a Nissan Versa Note) and said it would never all fit. Well, I surprised him and managed to fit everything in my car:

Moved it all into the basement:

(Not sure why these pictures are all sideways.... )

I spent a few hours over the past few days taking an inventory of everything (and playing a lot of guitar).

To start off, here's a bunch of random miscellaneous stuff and pedals:

(wth, why aren't these pictures sideways?)

Also had an SM58, mic stand, and cable, and so many guitar stands:

Now for the big ticket items! First up, amps!

The Deluxe Reverb is probably the biggest reason I wanted to go for this deal. I've wanted to upgrade my amp for so long and this is the perfect chance. I haven't spent too much time with it, but it sounds amazing!

But he also had a couple of Blackstar amps (ID15TVP and ID60TVP)

The other biggest reason I wanted to jump on this deal; the American Vintage 65 Jazzmaster:

Surprisingly, after playing them all, I might actually like the American Standard Tele more:

The American Standard Strat probably has my favourite finish of the three, though:

Planet Waves NS Capo Lite
Shure Stage Performance Microphone Kit with SM58, Cable, Stand
Snark HZ tuner
Soundtech Music Stand
Virtuoso Premium Polish
An extension cord
A Nike duffle bag for all the random cables and shit

So my plan at the moment is to sell most of it to make my money back, but I'm definitely keeping the Deluxe Reverb Reissue and at least one of the Fender guitars (probably the Jazzmaster, maybe the Telecaster, maybe both?). I'll probably end up keeping a lot of the random miscellaneous stuff and pedals too; at least the CS3 and probably one of the RT20 and/or CE5. I literally haven't had a chance to play any of the pedals so far. Or the Blackstar amps. I've literally only tested out the guitars with the Deluxe Reverb, and I absolutely love it! Surprisingly, the Tele and Jazzmaster are tied for my favourites so far. I really thought the Jazzmaster would steal the show, but I really like the feel and sound of the Tele. I haven't really given the Strat a real chance yet though.

I’m sometimes surprised at the guitars I love. Maybe that Tele is a special one or right for you. I would make sure you can’t come into whatever works for you again with another one before offing it. Yeah, my assumption is the ‘65 JM would win over an Am Std Tele for me, too, but maybe you are more of a Tele guy. You’ve given yourself a really cool way to find this out for yourself.

Yeah, I was a bit surprised as well. That being said, I still really, really like the Jazzmaster and I definitely won't be in a rush to sell it (if I decide to that is). This really is the best chance for me to get my hands on something like the Jazzmaster; I likely never would have considered spending that much money on a guitar.

What a haul  Where ARE these mystical "all my gear for good price" bundle sales?

I saw this on your IG - what a haul!

I can’t even imagine trying to explain a haul like this to my better half.

My significant other was very understanding. I tried to explain it all to her and she just said she trusted my judgement. She might be a little upset if I don't end up making a significant portion of the money back, but I don't think that'll be a problem

I've been play testing the guitars like crazy and I decided that I'm going to pass on the Strat. It's a great guitar; it feels great, it sounds great, but I just vibe with both the Tele and Jazzmaster so much more. I honestly kind of knew this was going to happen from the start; there's no way it was ever going to compare to either of the other guitars to me. As for the Jazzmaster and Tele, I'm still pretty torn and I absolutely love them both. The Tele is just so simple and clean and the Jazzmaster is so smooth and versatile. And they both feel great in my hands. So I'm going to make the right decision and I'm going to keep them both for now.

The funny thing is that I keep forgetting about the Yamaha acoustic/electric. I really should pull that out to give it a chance, but I kind of doubt I'll keep it either; I've already got a few acoustics that I really like. That being said, it is probably a bit of an upgrade on my Simon and Patrick, so I guess we'll see.

So far I've only really tested the guitars through the Deluxe Reverb. So tonight I decided to test out the Blackstar amps. They're really the same amp, but the 60 is bigger and louder (obviously). They sound good and there's tons of options, but I can't see myself keeping either of them. I'd much rather a nice amp that can take a few pedals than a jack of all trades like these. They honestly give me a bit of option paralysis with all of the voice options, TVP options, effects, etc. Also, I'm really not a fan of the "OD" or "crunch" voices.

I started giving a few of the pedals a workout too. I think I'll keep the CS3 as there seems to be a lot hidden in that one; it's a lot different than the other compressors I have (Accountant and Black Finger). The RT20 might be a little more than I really need, but it was giving me some amazing Pink Floyd tones and that LED is wild. The CE5 felt a little boring after the RT20, so I need to give it another shot. I haven't tried the JamMan Looper thing yet. I have been wanting another looper for awhile, but I never get along with them. And I'm not even going to bother testing the RP1000 beyond checking it to ensure it works. It just doesn't inspire me at all and I couldn't be bothered to learn its ins and outs.

Also, both the Jazzmaster and the Tele came with their original hard shell cases as well as deluxe molded hard shell cases. I'm kind of thinking of selling the deluxe molded cases. Sure they offer more protection, but these guitars probably aren't ever really leaving my house so I really don't need that much protecting. Am I crazy?

I had several years where I enjoyed a HOG into a RT20, as one of my synthy layers. Took up too much space on my board but the RT20, I think, is one of those under the radar pedals.

That haul is especially nice if you have the energy and time to sell all the stuff you are flipping. I have to admit, I spent the first 4 or 5 months of this year divesting of everything that I wasn't using, which was a massive amount of equipment, and man, those photos of yours are giving me some kind of lazy man's PTSD! Totally empathize with that person for wanting to sell it all in one lot.

Those guitars are really beautiful.
