Hello fellow fuzz junkies...I have a general inquiry about a couple of Frost Giant Electronics pedals. The Massif vs the Massif Four Horseman. I was wondering if anyone has compared the 2? Wondering if it’s worth the extra money to get the four horseman with the BC109s instead of the regular Massif with the BC108s. There’s also a special limited model regular massif with BC548s so let’s throw that model into the mix. Sometimes I think that the differences might be small and kinda pointless to question each pedal so much but then I think about the infamous Analogman Sunface pedal...and the differences of the separate transistors that you can get in that pedal can make a huge difference. I know that the 548s are a more modern plastic styled transistor and can produce a higher gain but to my ears they seem to be a bit harsh sounding at times especially when compared to both the 108s and 109s. Those two transistors definitely have a warmer/smoother sounding output...to my ears at least. So what do you guys think? Any input would be greatly appreciated. Am I stressing out over these 3 models for absolutely nothing or do you feel that there’s gonna be a huge difference between these pedals? Obviously I’d love to just buy all 3 and compare them but financially that’s not something I can swing. Anybody played either of these models and have any thoughts? Also...even if you haven’t played either of these specific pedals but have compared other pedals with the 108, 109 or 548 I’d super appreciate some input on which transistor sounded better to you as that would also help in making my decision. I’m really looking forward to what anyone has to say...I haven’t thought about a specific pedal purchase like this in a freaking long time!!

I've swapped between BC10X and BC54X transistors in the same pedal and there's been literally no audible difference to my ears. AFAIK there's no meaningful difference between the two series, one just replaced the other and costs about 1/10 as much.

I think you'd notice the same difference between two identical pedals with the same nominal transistors as you would between one with 109Cs and one with 549Cs.

I appreciate the input. I think that I'll just say screw it and go with whatever I can find easiest. Sent myself into a bit of a rabbit hole here with these damn transistors and I think it's time to find the ladder and get the hell outta here! Thanks man...
