Need help identifying a device

Post by Confuzzled »

Sorry this is so vague... A few years back there was a video of a black box that someone was walking through subways, streets, all over holding it up and it was generating different noises/tones. Anyone recall what it was called?

I picked up an Ether recently and only realized after I got it that oh yeah I never leave the house nowadays because of a virus. But it does what it's supposed to do, and even adventuring around the house is interesting. Lots of talk radio coming through the pipes in the basement.

I thought something good would happen if I used it near one of those FM transmitter doohickeys you use if your car stereo doesn't have an aux, but it didn't do anything at all. I'm not sure why--maybe the signal is just too weak and it gets drowned out.

I got a version 1 of the SOMA Ether and found it to be pretty useless, but I never walked around outside with it. Tethered to a recording device in my home studio, it was underwhelming to say the least. Apparently there is a version 2 which is improved.

Its meant to be an exploratory field recording tool. If you just sit at home you're never going to get much use out of it.
