Recently got into Leslie West and mountain. His tone is disgustingly heavy for the time when he was playing regularly. Just some sunn amp and LP JRs. Crazy shit.
Sad I didn't get a chance to see him live.

Leslie, was a NY boy (my homestate) and is still super under rated imo. Just such a great tone, really nailed that 70s heavy blues thing where Cream had left off. Felix was Cream's producer as well before Mountain. I highly highly recommend the official and bootleg Mountain live records. Just some really incredible stuff, some of the live Nantucket Sleighride jams will blow your mind. Rest easy Leslie.

I saw Mountain at the fair as a young lad. It was a memorable performance because during the first song, dude tripped over a cable and fell face first on his guitar. He laughed it off and killed the rest of the show. R.I.P.

Thats sick hahaha. Man I'm so sad I'll never experience Mountain live but I'm for sure gonna listen to those bootlegs and live releases. His tone always sounded monstrous.

I really like this whole record:

Also, West is responsible for one of the shortest readily identifiable samples I can think of:

Don't forget the drum intro to Long Red... that sample is the cornerstone of an incredible amount of early and current hiphop still. For maximum effect, the Woodstock recording (... the first Woodstock)

Yeah this is rough. Climbing! is a fantastic record.
No idea if I can find the source, but there's some Noel Redding interview where Hendrix asked Redding if he thought he (Jimi) was as good as him (Leslie) when it came to guitar. Game recognise game.
