still not dead

Hi, kids...sorry that i've been away from here for the most part since sometime in the spring. when working from home, dealing with my partner and her complicated situation, and the rebellion became overwhelming i just shut down. then my cat died on 5/15. it was so bad a couple of weeks ago that i shut off my social media for 48 hours and then unfollowed all the political people i followed on Twitter other than folks from my locality. i don't need minute-by-minute coverage of all the police brutality.
the positive side of all this upheaval is that it's gotten me to start playing more again. i hadn't hardly played in weeks, but recently got to the point i'd been waiting for where i just couldn't not do it any more. i've been going through everything as part of cleaning up the apartment, and thus have been cleaning and organizing my equipment. right now i'm doing maintenance/repair--a new tone pot here, bone saddle/nut/new tuners for the Epiphone FT-345 acoustic i've had since 1974 there--but am threatening to get back into guitar projects in a big way, having found all sorts of interesting parts on the interwebs. if i can find the old thread i *think* i had for projects in the olden days i'll add to it; otherwise a continuing projects page will start soon. and i adopted a new cat.
i missed you guys.

Sleep well, old pussy cat.
Yay, new pussy cat!
I know what you mean about shutting down, even from all the way over in the UK it looks terrible (we're not much better here, tbh) and it's hard to read about day after day. I've pretty much dug in and surrounded myself with pedals for the duration.
Good to hear you're feeling a bit better now, I'm still wondering what's happened to Jwar.

Allow me to introduce you to Otis. he's my new cat, who i adopted in late June. he was a stray who lived somewhere near my gf's house as one of three strays they fed for a couple of years. once it got warm enough to sit outside he would come over to me and rub on my legs, meow, purr, and generally conduct a scorched-earth campaign to convince me he was the cat for me. he's incredibly sweet and laid back, and follows me around the apartment from room to room...when i go to poop he lays on my feet while i'm sitting on the loo. he's seventeen pounds of cat, or was when he saw the vet. HE CHONK. ABSOLUTE UNIT. the vet says he's never seen a cat so cross-eyed, and he's been working here like 40 years. it doesn't seem to bother him in the slightest; he jumps on top of furniture and counters with an ease belied by his bulk, and has caught moths in my room which is not surprising given that he was known to hunt in the woods near Becky's. he makes me very happy. it really means something to me that
he picked
me out.

- i'll just make myself at home here...

- ain't i a looker?

- wake me up when the toona arrives, hoomin.

Welcome back dubkitty, and I'm sorry about your previous kitty.

But as for Otis, it looks like your familiar has come to you.
