Anybody have a deep knowledge of Hendrix' various rigs? Obviously he used Marshalls a lot, but I've heard also towards 1970 he was using Sunn heads too.
Anyone know, how does he get that SOUND on the Live at Monterey recording? The bottom end is just amazing. I've watched a few videos online but can't make out too many details.

It's a great record. Giving it a quick listen now (I prefer Clark University for Hendrix bootlegs) it sounds mostly like a fuzz face and a marshall and a lot of volume knob work (e.g. right when he takes off at 1:30 into Killing Floor or the jammy bits of Like a Rolling Stone). Plus a great recording and a forgiving battery pedal.

I wouldn't use an old Sunn for tone necessarily. They're just big and loud. But also there are photos of him in front of a Marshall backline burning his Strat Nice excuse to listen to such a legendary guitarist though, thanks!

Killing Floor is crazy on that recording.
