Modernistic and innovative synthesizer designs

Hey, good people of ilf!
My brother wants to mod his Akai Miniak with loads of encoders, buttons and a five octave keyboard. The Miniak has the same engine as the Alesis Ion and is quite a powerful little synth and he uses it for years, so the idea isn't as bad as it appears.
Because I used to be a graphic designer, he wants me to design the new layout, which will be lasercut and screenprinted. He wants a modernistic, innovative design, that doesn't rely on the typical grid of the different modules of the synth and has no retro vibe at all. Think of Modal 002, Modor NF-1 or various synths designed by Axel Hartmann.
Now I'm looking for some inspiration. Show me some gear (not necessarily synths) to blow my mind with their modernistic, innovative design.
