Deco warblings

Hello guys.

After going round the houses on Randomly Modulated Droning Backgrounds for literally years ugh I've come back to the expensive Strymon Deco, which offers tasteful overdrive plus vibrato and chorus. (Apologies to anyone who recommended this box to me in any of multiple threads passim.)

There are zillions of demos of the unit, but I can't find one that shows the randomness of the warble. I may be spoilt because of having the Mid-Fi and Fairfield boxes as the gold standard. Can anyone point me at a video of the Strymon with the warbling front-and-centre?

Best, NP.

Thx. I'd found it but skimmed it, so I went back and relistened. Still havering about the Deco -- anyone have any thoughts about how it stacks up against the random/lofi pedals? I'm also considering the Pinebox Sirens but the Deco looks more versatile. Best, NP.

Sirens doesn't seem to have any expression control, which makes it less interesting to me. One of my favorite Deco sounds is having it in Invert mode and controlling the delay time with an expression pedal, so as you approach zero the filter sound gets more and more extreme, until the sound is cancelled out completely. However, most Deco sounds are way more subtle. The Saturation creates a nice overdrive sound, but it's not really crusty or degraded sounding. And as you can hear in that video, the wobble is nicely random but it's still fairly polite, even at the highest setting.

I can only directly compare it to the Cooper FX Generation Loss. If you're looking to completely mangle your signal, you can with the Generation Loss. But if you want subtler shadings, maybe you'd prefer the Deco. The modulation on the Generation Loss can be reasonably subtle, but only at the very lowest settings.

Yeah, the Deco warble doesn't get too crazy. It's a very 'nice' sounding pedal but kinda lacks impact, if that makes sense.

I get the appeal of having it all in one box, but an Alexander Super Neo Matic paired with a Fuck OD or a Broadcast or something would get way more range, IMO.

Thanks guys, much appreciated. Deco is over-polite, huh? Your impressions confirm mine.

Despite there being 10,000 fuzz pedals in the world, there never seem to be many options when you start to do something idiosyncratic. I like this site because the people who know those options are here.

My issue, if anyone has a creative solution: I'm running the rather bland output of a smart octaver into a separate bass amp via a Superego. I want to add grit and random(ish) modulation with as little fuss as possible. Sirens isn't random enough and Deco isn't gritty enough. Other suggestions gratefully recd.
