Searching for a Guttural and Snarling Fuzz

Like a tee'd-off tiger!

I'll be candid here and say I want to get in on David Torn's fuzz sound. That low-mid-frequency grind on double-stops and chords, the juicy harmonic girth on single notes, the purring decay--sustainy feedback is okay, too!--(i.e. all that new, fun harmonic content one gets to interact with when one steps on a fuzz)

I already have a BA Kay (killer), and I ordered a neon green Dream Reaper today (I've wanted one since they came out :!!!: ). Also owned a Fuzz Factory years ago (wanted to be able to control oscillation with my feet, hence the Dream Reaper order). I'm sort of a fuzz noob.

I'm looking at a BA Pirk or Fuzz Mutant. I've also heard Torn using the Analogman Sunbender Mk. IV--sounded sick.

Would love to learn about other recommendations and see what the experts have to say!!

Thank you for reading!

You might consider a Harmonic Percolator variant.

Good to hear from you, dude! I'm still loving my Vitruvian Mod :thumb:

Yeah, in listening to HP demos, it would make sense that a bass guitar's frequencies would get thinned out with an HP-type pedal. I think you're right.

The Porkolator and the Pirk def have my attention. Would love to destroy the front end of my Marshalls with an HP!

I read that as "a race thing," and I was like, yeah: good point. "Guttural" could very well be an ethnolinguistically relative term lol. I guess I mean to say a fuzz that sounds like it's coming from just behind the epiglottis of a deranged snow leopard.

Thank you for the recommendations. I will be on the lookout for a Tornita, and that Septic Fuzz sounds siiiIiick.

I'll think of some tonal examples I could post here.

i had to really think for a while what fits the description. in the end I came back to something unexpected. a red dot NKT 275 sun face with bias control. maybe with a boost in front.

but also there is maybe a metasonix that would be good for this. the F-1.

lastly, this is the death by audio

I almost thought about some other devi ever pedals but I can't think of anything specific. not an expert on devi ever pedals. there are some full tone pedals I would consider maybe. mostly the fuzz faces.
