Note: the power supply is optional. A friend has one and said that it needs a dedicated power supply. Can anyone confirm?

It doesn't need a dedicated supply, it just needs the full 150 mA. People are putting them on under-powered daisy-chains and thinking they are broken.

For reals. My Rubberneck runs great on my gas powered daisy chain. I get lightheaded after a while but it sound great.
