Gear Demo People! What are you using?

So for a long time know I've been thinking that it'd be fun to do some short clips of some pedals I own. Mainly cause it's fun to somehow save/remember combos and sounds I like, without having to turn them into a full song (and because everyone wants more clips and demos of gear, right?) :D
I'm not looking into doing anything extravagant and want to stay away from editing as much as possible. I basically want to be able to film the pedals I'm using, while playing/tweaking and record the audio at the same time. Preferably without having to mic stuff up. The walls a really thin where we live so I always play with headphones on anyways.

Optimal solution would be to just be able to rig my phone as a camera above my table, with an audio cable (from the output of whatever is being used as an amp) connected to it, press record and just go.

Any suggestions for what I'd need? Cables? A good not too pricy and adjustable stand for my phone (or perhaps my gf's camera :P) that I can attach to/remove from the table easily? I'm thinking I'd make use of the basic camera app, but if anyone has suggestions for other stuff, that'd be welcome too.
(Also, on a side note, it'd be cool to be able to do some stop motion eventually, but cheap gear clips is aim number one.)

And besides my questions, in general, what are people using and how do you like it?

I just use my phone. I used to use a semi-fancy camera, but phones have such good cameras now that for a YouTube video you might as well just use that. I go straight into an external audio card and into my DAW. That way I can hear what the viewer will hear 1:1 via headphones, minus some compression on YouTube's end. Unless you demo dirt pedals, boosters, compressors or, like, tape echos, no one seems to care what X guitar you're using into what X amp using X mic. Probably not a popular opinion, but that's what I've learned over the years. Keep in mind my demos are mostly just aimed at ILFish people who don't mind that it's not high budget or hi-fi. It shows off the pedal, and puts that in the center. It has been philosophy, at least.

And I've never owned a tripod or anything like that. I've used boxes, chairs, duct tape etc. :picard:

Yeah I don't care and actively prefer lower production quality demos most of the time. My guitar isn't your guitar, my amp isn't your amp, my room isn't your room etc etc. If a phone recording is hi-fi enough to give a relatively good indication of what the pedal is doing that should do the trick. I'm sure you can MacGyver a stand out of tape.

For fuzz pedals properly mic'd recordings are nice but it doesn't have to be very fancy. And I've bought plenty of fuzz pedals based on iPhone recordings back in the good old days.

You guys hit the nail on the head. (And UG, always liked your demos. Shows of the pedal instead of your video production skills.). I just want to focus on the pedal(s) and just put it out there, in case anyone is interested/curious about them. As far as some sort of tripod I reckon that'd be something I need, just to make setup easy and quick. But otherwise I'd just want to keep equipment and connections etc to a minimum. Still interested in what ppl use though :P

I don't actually make video demos so I'll shush. Just talking about what I like haha. If people actually listened to audio demos it is a thing I might do a bit more but I cannot be bothered doing videos.

Use an old Nokia.

This is the gimmick you need to break through.

Beards and beverages is done.
Everyone copying knobs is done.
PGS Andy is done.

It's time for Nokia Prone.

I've been planning to record demos of my builds just to have as an archive, but since I mostly do fuzzes and drives I want it to be mic'd to pick up the nuances of dirt. With modulation/digital pedals I don't care as much about the audio quality, more just what it does.

Anyone tried the Roland Go mixer? Seems like that would be a good option if you want to use your phone camera and have external audio that's automatically synced, as I understand it.

HOW SIR could I be expected to take a gear demo seriously unless I hear the beautiful chiming cleans beforehand. Now please, proceed with your demo of the analogizer, the sound of more analog in a pedal

This seems like a decent suggestion. Will look into this.

Shure VP88+ Video kit. Tripod, clamp and mic. I'm gonna' start using that since my Lumix is a great camera but I'm not crazy about the mic.
