What's a pedal that does this

Peep 1:13:35 of the video above.

He uses a wah pedal to do it, and I know how to do it with a wah pedal. But surely it's not necessary to use a wah pedal. He basically uses the pedal as a binary; it's either fully on, or just off. There's probably a simple stompbox that lets you accomplish this, no?

So I'm looking for something cheap, and much smaller than a wah pedal. Any suggestions?

The EHX cocked wah thingy?

I got literally nothing out of that clip though so I may have misunderstood what you actually want.

I also got nothing out of that timestamp at the video - do you mean where he turns off the feedback by switching off some pedal?

If you're talking about a pedal that does a fixed position wah sound with a stomp, yes the exist. As dos said the EHX is an example. Other companies make/have made similar things e.g. keeley and dunlop (Q zone). Probably more I don't know/forgot.

If you're up for a bit of DIY this (https://buildyourownclone.com/collectio ... lopefilter) is the cheapest and smallest I know of.

Sorry! Forgot the hour mark. (I'll get back to this thread to check recs later.)

Aha!

Yes. You want a fixed/cocked wah pedal.

You can score a $90 Harmonic Energizer clone on Ebay. Or build one yourself. Great utility. I didn't watch the clip. Just read D.o.S' post.
Or you can get super fully featured filter pedal like a WMD Protostar, or Dwarfcraft Happiness, or Robot Factory (fucking thing I bought from Uncle Gunnar) and patch the LFO out to nothing (not the Robot Factory). It would be way overkill for that but then you have a fully featured filter pedal for your use.

Yep! Definitely. My suggestions above are definitely not exhaustive I'm sure there are more around.

^^ oh yeah forgot about harmonic energiser. That looks like a neat take on the idea

Please note that I don't really need it to emulate a wah or anything. I just want that specific effect from the video. Kinda like the Shin-Ei fuzz wah sound on Psychocandy at its most intense. I actually use the same distortion pedal as the guitarist in the video, so I just need some sort of filter/fixed wah/thing. The simpler the pedal, the better for me. I like simple "do one thing, do it well" pedal.

Anyone think the Mooer Envelope will do the trick? I'm sure there's some cheapo filter pedal that will do the trick—it just needs to permit (what would to most people be) really crazy settings.

A fixed wah is just a wah pedal with a knob on the pedal for the filter frequency rather than a treadle. So they don't really emulate wahs and do exactly what you want! Turn it to max then step on it for a gnarly fixed filter sound.

Any envelope filter that lets you change the frequency and dial back the sensitivity so that it doesn't trigger no matter how hard you play should also do the trick. The Mooer will definitely do this general sound with the sensitivity dialled all the way down but it's up to your ear and your other gear to see whether the maxed out settings are intense enough for you :idk:

cant you do that with a metal zone with the mids cranked? thats probably the cheapest route

You know what... you actually can and this is a great idea! There is no resonance knob per say but you can get something similar to cranked way (again I did not watch the clip in this thread and I am not going to so... :idk: )

Another option - this one's a bit pricier but has a clean blend and a boost circuit as well.

Maybe just get an eq pedal, like the 7 band boss

^ That's definitely worth a try especially with how easy they are to find for cheap, but won't have the same resonance so it may or may not have the exact desired result.

I guess that or a used metal zone is the cheapest option. Dunno how the mt-2 will sound though. If anyone can convince me that the mt-2 after a fab tone will sound like Psychocandy, that would be great, lol.
