EHX Cathedral Input Level Overload?

Have any other EHX Cathedral owners noticed that your pedal will randomly freeze, infinitely self-oscillate at high volume, and bypass the input signal until disengaged if fed higher gain sources in Plate and Flerb modes? Just wondering if this is normal or if the demo model someone sold me saw too much action on the sales floor.

It's now doing the same thing with a clean signal when in plate mode. Tweaking of knobs seems to affect the self-oscillation, but it still doesn't stop until the mode is changed or pedal is bypassed. Thinking it's going back to Rock'n'Roll Vintage at this point. Too bad given phaser>chorus>flerb is one of my most favorite gazey textures (that will have to be emulated with an MS-70CDR for now).

Indeed. Thankfully, the return has seemed hassle-free thus far. The upside of this experience was discovering the Digitech Polara modulation mode is a halfway decent flerb substitute.

I’ve had a cathedral for years. I love the pedal. Something about it. Super synthetic sounding but endearing to me.

This has not happened to me... but I could see it happening if that makes any sense. Good to know. Won’t put any of my hot stuff (lol) in front of it.
