I saw a Boss DD8 had been recently released with no fanfare whatsoever and while this has no effect on my life (I’ll stick with my DD7 thank you very much) we are a mere 67 days away from 2020 and a whole new world of gear trends, sends and depends.

We’re literally 9.5 weeks away from a new decade. The death of shimmer? The elimination of all gain knobs? Purple Ringworms? A new generation of minifoogers? A new generation of Moogerfoogers? An Arturia synth with a Steiner-Parker filter?

It could be..... ANYTHING

Ideally someone will buy several caves, hook them up with speakers and mics, and allow you to send your recordings through them for a nominal fee and hear the results in real-time through the internet. But it won't sound as "real" as a lexicon so nobody will use it ("this just sounds like a mid-tier digital reverb, where's the modulation?!")

I would love to start a pool for this. We'll have to do some research of 'what is coming out', 'who we think will get it', 'who has the most impressionable fan base?'

It was actually my dad, who does not play, who told me that the DD-8 had dropped. Weird. Looks good.

As for the new age of stompboxes, dotted swells and overdrive so transparent it makes your amp invisible will be the kings of the gear world.

Affordable samplers will be a thing again. Not sample players that you load samples into from your computer or phone. Actual samplers. I’d probably STFU if I would hurry up and get a MicroGranny, but I was shocked surveying and spotting nothing else new that was cheaper than an SP-404. Because who knows, maybe I might want higher fidelity. Crazier things have happened.

Anti-glitch pedals. They'll use AI to play the additional better notes that you should've played if you'd had more talent

i also hope will be the year "clean" ring mods come back so we have more choices besides the usual 3-4 notables.
