Fuzz before Wah fans, what are your faves?

Hello all!

I'm new to the forum but I've been a member of others and ogling boutique fuzzes since the late 90's.

The title says it all. For those who prefer their fuzz before wah in the chain for that sickly, washed out vocal freq-sweep kinda sound. I've mostly been a Tonebender fuzz into a Colorsound wah type over the years(nods to T Rex & NIN) but I'm curious to hear what everyone else is into? Especially the choices that are a little left of center.

Thanks!
:snax:

I've been using a silicone fuzz face into a Wilson Freaker wah, which is essentially a hotrodded parapedal clone. It's a lot different than a traditional wah, it sounds really synthy, almost like a wah and a phaser had a baby together. I use it a lot for slow filter sweeps.

Some kind of muff or muff based pedal into a morley power fuzz wah also with the fuzz engaged on the wah

Freaker Wah = Parachute/Iommi, correct? Silicon FF's never quite get their due IMHO.

Yep! It's a direct clone of the parachute wah with some additional features like volume boost, adjustable sweep range that goes beyond the original parachute's range, a six position switch that adjusts the center frequency of the sweep, even a little toggle to turn on/off the volume drop of the heel position. It's a fantastic pedal. Sometimes I'll just barely wobble it around the toe position and it absolutely screams.

Fuzz faces are also similarly excellent, I love being able to change the level of drive/fuzz with my volume knobs. And the added aggressiveness and temperature stability of silicone is great. I'm currently using a Black Acid by Emanating Fist that absolutely slays. It sounds big and burly, with great low end but there's also a really sweet upper mid boost that helps you cut through the mix and throw all that heft around.

Additionally has anyone noticed how different fuzzes seem to affect the sweep differently?

Yeah this is a big thing whether your wah is before or after fuzzes. I guess it's about the fuzz clipping differently at different frequencies so when you have a sweeping notch you notice the differences more. :idk:

can't go wrong with fuzz faces/italian tonebenders/similar circuits. anything too focused in one frequency range (fuzzrites, muffs) the wah doesn't have enough of the right frequencies to be effective.

I have/had some fuzzes that are better after wah, and some that are better before.

the ones that are better before are just so because turning on a wah before them doesn't make a goddamn difference! Like you can't hear the sweep AT ALL.

These are my Jext Telez Dizzy Tone v.5 and my Basic Audio Foxton.

I use the wah post-fuzz set to stun and am basically ripping off Sonic Youth's Diamond Sea every time. <====8 even though they used the Ludwig Phasor, not a wah.

Cantrell wah looks cool as fuck. I really like my CAE wah with dirt before or after it. The boost is cool for getting vintage fuzzes to solo volumes.

You can put the integrated fuzz in the Cock Fight Plus before either the wah or “talk” ... makes the talk feature more dramatic

My fav configuration is actually wah between two dirts. Best of both worlds imo.

I generally use OD's and dist more than fuzz but I do really like my BYOC superfuzz in front for super extreme nasal destruction.
