I currently use a mini Decimator and it’s fine? I run it right after my guitar so it mutes feedback and that seems to be the most effective. I run everything else 4cm with a Mesa Stiletto and I’ve tried several gates in the loop but I can’t seem to get them to do the tight palm mute thing without being directly after the guitar. Any tips? Should I try a gate with a loop or something?

Yeah, my first thought was running it 4-cable with the amp in the loop of the gate. Do you push the amp anything at all? I assume not since you play a Mesa. You could try running the amp cleaner and do: Gainy thing>Gate>Amp, that's the djent way to do things

Fulldrive 3 or a RAT clone set to no diodes and super low gain. I run the gain like maybe halfway? It just seems super all or nothing. Everything else is 4cm and sounds fantastic except the gate is finicky as fuck.

Also the loop on the Mesa is insanely complicated? It has a send/return pot but the master volume also functions as a send volume when the loop is on? I’m 90% sure I have no idea how it actually works.

I checked the manual and it seems that the pot on the back is just to not overdrive things when pushing the master. Kind of a weird design tho, i agree. If the gate feels weird its probably best to try some other one. Weird tho, considering isp is supposed to be among the best

Also have you thought of something like empress' deluxe buffer, it has some non-gate noise reduction which may be cool

I’ve looked at these before and never really needed it with NMV/Single channel stuff but I’m definitely considering one now. I’m thinking about trading the stiletto for my buddies block letter 5150 also

The ZVex Loop Gate is my only experience with noise gates but it works great. Use it in front of an HM-2 sometimes and it has a nice response for start/stop or chug chug. The release sets the fade-out time (from near-instant to several seconds) and the sensitivity has an internal trimmer as well, which I found beneficial to adjust for gating to happen earlier.

I have one and play with fuckloads of distortion and it really doesn't do much, unless I put it on super hard reduction, and then I just have no treble.
ISP works ok as long as you don't play clean.
What about MXR noise clamp? One came up cheap locally so I googled a bit and it seems aight?

I've just gone bananas on getting rid of noise in my rig, because I don't dig any noise gates.
Humbuckers, shielded star-grounded guitars, using the minimum amount of gain to get the saturation I want, good cables, good power supply. Power supply filtering also helps. You can get a fancy furman thing for a million dollars, which is probably rad and all, but I picked up a cheap one from a hardware store and it cleans shit up. If the power supply (coming out of the wall) is good then it does nothing, but if it is shit it keeps things good. You can also swap out pre-amp tubes for quieter ones. Not less gain, just some are noisier than others.

You've got your shit together though dude, so I dunno how much of that will help.

Yeah that’s my issue, I’ve gone through all of the small stuff down to filtered power strips and everything. My hum at idle is still fucking crazy though. Literally twice as loud as my other guitar player running the same amount of gain. The 5150 seems a bit quieter, but I also picked up a precision drive. Hopefully I can run that up front and the Decimator in the loop and get the stops razor tight.

It’s really maddening when the song itself is incredibly tight but little squelches of feedback are killing the tight pauses. I’ve got no issues with feedback or getting feedback when I want it, just hard getting it gone while playing house shows and shit.

Noise is high, feedback isn’t crazy? I run the gain at like 6 on either channel. Either amp is 15+ years old, so I wouldn’t be surprised if they need a recap
