Pedal order switcher with loopers/glitch/granular chicanery?

Post by Seance »

Does anybody have experience using a pedal order switcher with delay-line loopers
so that you can mangle the loop created by switching pedal order?

It seems like the options are sort of limited if you want a fade between when
switching pedal order. It looks like only Sound Sculpture Switchblade 8F does that.

And the Decibel 11 Pedal Palette (out of production) looks like it can swap order
between different sets of pedals, but without any fades... but... potentially might
be cheaper than a Switchblade 8F, and require less programming, MIDI extras, etc.

People have suggested passive A/B switchers, like from SaturnWorks, but
that seems less dynamic unless a person had a few of them, which might
raise the potential for issues with noise floor and ground loops(?).

Thoughts?

Since so many pedals in this genre smooth and smear the source you might not notice a huge difference with fades. A mechanical loop order switcher might give more of an effect and you could easily make one that fades between as well. Look at the Toneczar VFM for inspiration maybe?

I guess I was worried about audible pops when switching. But perhaps that isn't a concern? Depending?

I made a pedal switcher with just a 4PDT switch. It works very well with surprisingly minimal popping. It is interesting to hear the often dramatic differences when switching order.

GigRig switchers are pop-less FWIW.

I use 2 ditto loopers with a flip flop in the middle. I record a loop on the first, then jam with the loop into the 2nd looper, then switch the order and clear out the first looper and repeat. I can build and tear down ideas pretty easily this way.
