wheres the value in tube amps these days

like when u could get a traynor head for less than 200 bucks
or get a music man for less than 400

i still think the ampeg reverberocket et al series from the 60s has a ton of value considering they sound fantastic and they come in at a fraction of their fender contemporaries

so im looking for a head or a combo, prefer a combo i guess doesnt really matter
but it needs to have enough headroom where it wont be completely destroyed by a colorsound power boost hitting the input
so im thinking.. maybe 20 watts plus?
ampeg sits right in that range, i know from experience that they take pedals incredibly well, and they have a ton of headroom for their rating. however they are pretty damn hard to find, harder to find someone who is selling online willing to ship. (can't blame them)

is there value anywhere these days in tube amps?

You should be able to find like a traynor ygl for a decent amount if you look around. Forget about 200 but something like 4-500, it's alot more but it is sort of decent for a 50 watt silverface workalike. I think if you want cheap tube stuff you should look into like 90s laney and carvin combos, there are some cool deals. The heads tend to have way too much stuff in them but the combos still were simple 2-channel designs.

idk its hard. I have been trying to find some nice deal on tube amp but it isnt easy (doesnt help that my area is just all hotrodded marshall/mesa 7-channel bs)

welp i was only looking for yba's so this should help me

trying to convince someone on the other side of the country to ship his ampeg to me, he has "local pickup only" in his listing, but i think theres some courier service that will pick it up, pack it up, ship it and it would still be a bargain at the price he is asking

Good luck with that! If it's a head shipping should be simple, people are just too scared of it (i guess they don't know how to pack things).

YBA's are nice too but I suspect YGL will be better suited your intentions (going by your avatar), they are like a twin but with a more marshally tonestack and a master volume.

But man do I wish I could find a cheap ampeg! Most of the old guitar amps here are super pricey, I think they all may be imports so people ask silly prices

oh it's a combo... and it weighs a ton.. i had one for a while and it was seriously heavy

reached out to a guy about 4-5 hrs from me who was selling one on reverb a few months back, listing is down now (just ended not marked as sold) hopefully he still has his and i can go pick it up. there arent enough of these reverberockets around to be able to count on one being within driving distance

oh man, good point

well guess what, after not speaking since march, and him taking his reverb listing down in between now and then, he still has it and is looking to sell it.

pretty fucking rad.
will cost me about 40-50 bucks in gas but i will get to see some old detroit friends too.

it's an ampeg reverberocket II guy says he bought it in 1969 and has been the owner since. looks like it was made somewhere in the 1965+ range based on my limited knowledge of this amp. really the only guys you hear talk about the reverberocket are jazz guys. i'll take it a million times out of a million over a fucking silverface twin and those icepick fuckin highs. i had a 72 twin for years and was just going back and comparing all the era's of fenders and the ampeg when i wasnt sure if that's what i wanted. jesus christ are fender amps overrated or what

i do really appreciate the brownface amps tho

anyway these reverberockets are warm as fuck and takes the old fuzzes and boosts i was bashing it with so wonderfully
