Dick Dale Dead

He died last weekend. It's too bad he had to go out like he did, he's been suffering for over 5 years. I saw him twice, the first time he blew me away, the second time it was like he could barely stand.

This is his best album, in my opinion.

I saw him something like 20 years ago and it was a lot of fun. I never really dove deep into the catalogue.
Reading news about him over the last decade has been super depressing.

RIP.
He was a big Inspiration for me in the mid 90ies. Saw him twice live: Awesome Performance.
My Fender Reverb Unit will always remind me of him.

I've added him to the list of "Guitarists I Love I Said I'd Finally See Next Time Who Then Died."

1. Fahey
2. Jansch
3. Dale.

Hearing "Misirlou" in Pulp Fiction in the 90s led me to fall in love with surf rock, which led me to playing the guitar, so in a roundabout way I kind of play music because of him. I was very fortunate to catch him live a few years ago. I had no idea he had rectal cancer in his 20s!

At the bar the other night the acoustic guitar act with a Looper totally did a little rendition of Misirlou.. nobody got it except me

I was lucky to see him a few times over the last decade, and I was looking forward to seeing him again this year. He brought his A game to every show I saw. People tagged him as surf, but he was from Boston and his music really transcended surf. Played an excellent cover of Rumble, which was a nice tip of the hat to Link Wray. Sang a couple of songs, but mostly did that pre-Beatles American not blues guitar instrumental thing (and of course Miserlou). Wanted the audience to clap on the one, he was quite emphatic about that. Joined his wife at the merch table after the show. The man was a pro, gave a consistently great show, and although he basically had to tour a bunch to offset medical expenses, it never seemed like he was just showing up to collect a check.

Best healthcare in the world so long as you pay cash and don’t plan to ever retire. God bless you Dick, RIP.
