I'm feeling the urge to splurge on some kind of skanky slab of octave fuzz, but I always get bored of them. What octave fuzzies have you stuck with?

Off the top of my head, I've tried:
FY-6 Super Fuzz
Ampeg Scrambler
Fulltone Octafuzz (the blue one)
Cbread octave (the original little one)

Considering:
ZVEX Woolly Mammoth, Johnny Octave.
Bee-Baa
Foxx Tone


The JO seems cool, and is purple, but nobody demo's what the internal trimpots do. I think I'd get bored of it quick if I couldn't dial up something really fuzzy and nasty on at least one side of it. I'm thinking a Woolly Mammoth might be more what I'm after?

Smallsound/bigsound Buzzz? The octave is footswitchable so it doesn’t always have to be on. It also has tons of toggles and options to fight off boredom.

The best one that I have tried was the Lastgasp Art Laboratories 45 Super Fuzz. It is very rare and expensive, though. It only fell in my hands, because I bought it for lordgalvar.

I currently have the Shiva/She Fuzz and that's great. only has one sound I use but it's a good sound. I have tried a few more, the buzzz is great on bass but I found it boring on guitar, I have an Octavia that is cool but not fuzzy enough for me. Some other stuff. Scrambler is fun but not really my style.

But my ultimate favourite octave fuzz tone is a green ringer circuit before any other fuzz. currently using upper -> algal bloom/ arc flash because fuzzhugger

Woolly Mammoth isn't an octave fuzz, just a gated fuzz. It's a great pedal though.

I totally want to try a beebaa.

The BOSS FZ-2 is also a great octave up fuzz in mode I. With the two-band EQ it is a very versatile sounding beast.

The Bee Baa is one of my all-time favorites and primarily a skronkier Muff-like fuzz with a unique, buzzy quality. It is capable of generating slight upper octave harmonics in scooped tone mode (provided the sustain level is near zero and a guitar's tone knob is rolled off a significant amount). I recently noticed a Maxon Fire (modern/compact Bee Baa clone without the boost mode) on Amazon (US) for close to 50% off street price.

The Idiotbox Dungeon Master is an upper octave fuzz with a distinct character that blends Univox Superfuzz grind and Boss HM-2 mids (currently on sale per a recent email from the builder). I also enjoy running lower gain options like Green Ringer and Scrambler variants into heavier fuzzes and tend to periodically rotate a Lovepedal Believe, .PSHC pdls. Piggy, Shoe Frog, and MI Audio Pollyanna, Foxrox Zim with Red Octave card, and Maxon Void on/off my board.

Foxx Tone Machine clones I've tried (Danelectro French Toast and General Guitar Gadgets Tone Toaster) seemed to have similar upper octave harmonics to Superfuzz variants and a different fuzz character that bordered on horn-like in some respects (moreso with the latter of the two).

I've also been wanting to try that Joe Gore Screech.

Use the tone control on your guitar for octave fuzz and shimmer/crystals/ice cascading octave stuff. Makes big differences to my ear, and may help keep octave fuzzes sounding fresh for your ears.

Correct! I have the Pearl OC-07 and it has a very nice kinda clean octave up sound.

I like the zvex octane for a kind of superfuzz w moderate octave and lots of useful tones (as opposed to just 2)

Try an LAL Octavella. It's kinda like a Foxx but has a feedback oscillation that continues for a bit after you stop playing. It's kind of like as you play you charge it, then stop and it discharges a feedback-like oscillation.

The Outsound Foxx is exceptionally fun. LAL 45/46 both are awesome.The Chankgeez/Pepe suggestion is an awesome one though I've just heard it and haven't played one.

Ring mod with bother carrier and modulator being the instrument is an octave effect.

Go for something like the Carlin ring mod or a diode ring with an active buffer/splitter/tetanus booster in front.

If you can get ahold of an Outsound Foxx Tone Machine, it's the best. I also like my Joyo Ultimate Octave, which is supposed to be an incorrect clone of a Foxx.

Infanem Improbability Drive and ss/bs Buzzz are my favs.
