Large Midi Drum Pads Recommendation

I'm in a two piece band and I'd like my drummer to be able to hit drum pads to trigger a synthesizer to fill out the sound. I want 12 pads one for each musical note, but the cheapest solution ive found with decent sized pads (he needs to be able to hit them accurately with sticks in the middle of playing drums) is two $275 sets of 6 pads. Anyone know of a cheaper solution?

Sorta. Might not be cheaper, but it sure is cooler:

You can get ten velocity sensitive sounds out of one drum depending on how/where you hit it. It's an incredible bit of tech, and is super expressive.
Otherwise, you're looking at a Roland SPD-S(X), which is a cool sampler that won't take up much space, but also won't beat your budget.

A Keith McMillen 12-step you trigger next to your board would probably be a much simpler solution.

This is almost certainly true.
