I'm thinking about picking up an octatrack to tie my weird rig together but the workflow seems less than ideal. Am I being too wary?

No, the Octatrack is convolution unless you spend hours everyday with it.

That's what it seemed to be in videos. But it does so much stuff I want to do...

it made a lot of sense to me, after some youtube tutorials. The mixing is kind of clunky though. I haven't learned how to live sample/loop on it yet either. but I would say it's an incredibly deep machine, and worth the time invested. Plus it's an instrument you can grow with forever.
