This is my favourite guitar sound, which is yours?

Not only my favourite guitar sound -- it's my favourite album altogether. Composed of five tracks, it has two distinct, but continuous, pieces; the first divided into the first three tracks, the second into the last two. The restrained, almost ambient, parts are gorgeous. They are focussed, where they on other albums might serve as tedious or insipid build-up. And the climactic parts avoid the formulaic meandering certain newer "post rock" bands end up in -- they're explosive, earth shattering, and every bit as gorgeous as the calm parts that precede them. The album is an incredible journey. Every moment is an otherworldly treasure. Play it loud!

I love this album and their collaboration, but Mono hides a lot of awful song choices behind beautiful tone. Luckily it's not that hard to get, just buy a RV-2/3 and crank every knob. Also a fabtone dd-1, but as long as you have a metric fuck ton of reverb any fuzz or OD can get you there, really.

World's End Girlfriend is absolute choice though. Hurtbreak Wonderland was a revelation for me when it first came out. :snax:

Taka actually uses RV-5 into the Fab Tone. I already have the latter, and am looking for RV-5 or RV-6, if I can find them cheap-ish! Here's his board as of 2015:

FWIW, I don't find their songs awful. :)

it's not what i'd use for my own music, but just hearing Pops Staples play sparse chords through an amp with some swampy tremolo is magical:

It's a bit TGP but it doesn't get much better than Cream-era Clapton for me

I always liked Yoda's tone more than Taka's, but highly biased because I know he uses an OD-3, and I love rhythm more than leads.

Mine is single coil Fenders into JTM45.

I haven't listened to this in years; it still sounds excellent... It was downhill for Clapton from this point onwards; what a shame.

I don't think I have one favourite guitar tone (there are so many!), but I've always liked this:

Crispy burn.

I definitely can't pick a single favorite guitar tone, but right now I am going through a pretty heavy phase where I listen to the live with Lou Reed version of What Goes On by the Velvet Underground 5-10 times per day. Really dig that guitar tone even though it isn't anything special really. Sum of parts etc.

There's some epic live recordings from the Blind Faith/D&TD years, and the solo 70s studio stuff is very much of the period but it's as good as anything else around at the time.

honestly, i think Syd Barrett's sound on the early Pink Floyd records is always in the back of my head. i don't play music even remotely similar, but pretty much any time i'm dialing in an amp, i play a few of those riffs to see if it sounds 'right'.

(PS, that video is a weird youtube extended edit of the song. i like it though!)

I know I know I know, Jeff Buckley, but come on. This guitar sound is a fucking drop of dew from heaven.

Not just the tone here, but the playing style and tempo here and how they complement one another. Chirpy single coils. Angular and then sunny, the short decay of the spring reverb accentuated by the underground concrete recording space, which lends itself to the Tascam 4-track and boom boxes used to record to tape.
