Is This Possible?

Is it possible to put single coil pickup in a guitar with a humbucker spacing just by putting the single coil onto a humbucker mounting ring? I don't see why not. I might buy a Jaguar pickup and put it in my Airline. While I'm on the topic does anybody suggest a good surfy single coil with lots of jangle that would be better than a Jag pickup? Maybe something a little brighter?

yep...that'll work fine. i once put 2 telecaster lead pickups in a les paul custom. i just screwed it into the wood. the one in the neck position sounded fukkin great and i left it there for years.

Great! So should I pull the trigger on the Jag pickup or might it be too dark for surfy tones?

Some of the old Japanese Less Paul copies had single coils in a humbucker case.
They looked like hums nut didn’t sound like it.
I took 2 apart and put both coils into one case, it worked and actually sounded pretty good on an old school raw sort of way.
So one could go the other way and put a single coil in the housing so there are no odd looking gaps.

I recall seeing a clip of Liars playing live, and the singer was playing a Squier Musicmaster with a single coil instead of the humbucker but the single was slanted like a strat's.

A Jag pickup may not fit inside the casing, it has the "teeth" or whatever, I think that makes it wider than a regular single.

Yeah that's true, oh well if that doesn't work it's no problem really, it just won't look as pretty
