Why isn't Behringer the most-hated company around?

Behringer is currently dealing with the fallout of a labor strike in China and the revelation that last year they took Dave Smith, an employee, and several message board posters to court for libel. Will this actually hurt them, or are they becoming too big to fail?

Since Behringer is suing anyone who would dare to question their conduct and business practices, I've decided to keep my thoughts on Behringer off this board, since I don't want Tom or anyone associated with this board to face legal ramifications. I do, however, encourage people to read up on what Behringer is up to around the world, as they try to silence any public criticism or discussion of their business culture.

I'm sure a lot of people will skip this, or get lost in minutia, rather than absorbing the central themes. Nonetheless, I'm sharing it anyway. Happy Wednesday, pedal people. :hello:

Well, they're about the most despised in my house.
Copycats are one of my top pet peeves.

Cloning other peoples' designs and selling them for cheap because you can make them in places with questionable labour practices is not a wholesome business plan so I've never been a fan.

The lawsuits and recent handling of the strike have only made them look worse.

Haven't bought any before, definitely won't in the future.

Posting so I can get in on the whole being-sued-for-forum-comments action.

Behringer is boring and wholly uninteresting. Nothing they make is worth the $26 or whatever.

On this board? JHS is firmly positioned as public enemy #1. No other brand can derail a thread faster. I see flareups with other companies from time-to-time, but it's hardly a consistent wave of negativity. Concerning ILF, I've never really seen anything I'd classify as venom directed at Behringer.

Cos I don't want to be sued, plus a policy of trying not to wade into internet fights, with moderate success.

It's probably easier for people to hate a company selling clones of things they don't want that are expensive than to hate a company selling clones of things they do want that are cheap.

:snax:

it's probably coz if you need a DI/mixer/other utility thingy and you need it as cheap and as fast as possible, you're probably throwing a few notes behringer's way whether you really want to or not :idk:

philosophically, i'm against race-to-the-bottom cloning on the backs of oppressed labourers, but i'm also in favour of poor people having the tools to make/record music :idk: it's a conundrum

Well also Behringer, AFAIK, doesn't have anything linking them, (however tenuously, in any trace amount, implicit or otherwise) to groups that may or may not have donated or endorsed causes and groups that may have promoted anti-gay violence.

So, you know, they've got that going for them.

Edit: my question was in general, though.

Meh. I’d use Behringer shit. Money is money. I can’t always pay more for everything. So saving on something is nice. I don’t like their cloning but there are so many others that do it.

Plus why hate? Dislike I can understand. Hate feels too emotional.

I have only their tube mic pre. It's not exactly an inspiring piece of kit but it gets the job done. It's completely defaced/sharpied/stickered/re-knobbed to obscure the branding though, as I do not like the name, for (of course non-intentional and entirely coincidental) murderer-related reasons. Will never buy one of their products again.
