EQD Tentacle

Hey y'all!

So I'm eyeballing a Tentacle for the future. I wanna stick it after my BOG Fuzz Face for Octavio tones. Big plus is how no BS it is being knobless and small. Does anyone have any experience with one? What did you like and/or dislike about it? Just want my fuzzbros opinions before I go for it.

:hello:

It's basically a Green Ringer. :D

I liked it, but there're plenty of other Green Ringer clones for less. (unless you're gettin' one real cheap.)

This recently listed pedal will do about the same thing for you for less: https://reverb.com/item/13182679-chicag ... p-sunburst

If you do decide to go Tentacle, that's fine too. It's definitely a nice sounding example of the circuit.

I've built like 4 of them. It's the Green Ringer with some component changes here and there.

I think it's fantastic as shit obviously. That being said it does tend to make bright pedals more bright, but it definitely has sweet capabilities after some stuff. My favorite so far is pairing it with the hyperfuzz, and I think it's pretty groovy with fatty gnarly stuff like the pixel etc. You won't regret it. It's a fantastic addition.

Cool. Cheaper is definitely good as long as it sounds the same. Figured the circuit is simple enough to replicate.

Thanks!

I've played a bunch of Green Ringer clones. They pretty much sound very similar to each other. Some, obviously, sound slightly better than others. :idk: There's not much variation on the basic circuit (unless you start getting into some of the mods that people do). Some are voiced for slightly more wetness of the octave. :D Some are a little drier sounding. I prefer the dry ones. They have a little more "headroom".

I've got one of the Chicago Stompworks ones. It's nice sounding. About as good as any other you'll find.

BoS's comment about puttin' it after a fuzz is true. Things'll get very bright sounding. It'll generally sound much tamer placed before a fuzz.

Where in the chain do people put their green ringers?
Before or after dirt?

I tend to have mine sandwiched between two dirt pedals so I can do both! After dirt gets a cleaner octave, before dirt is closer to the octavia/superfuzz etc. sound.

I had an OG as part of a Hoof Reaper, then i built myself one cause I missed it after I sold the HR. It's great. Generally I prefer it before dirt but not always. I love it into gated fuzzes.

I put mine after my compressor (which is set for a slightly dirty clean tone) but before all my other dirt

What about if I put it before my BOG Fuzz Face? I have it first in my chain but im not sure if putting anything but the tuner before it changes the sound like other fuzz faces.

Im guessing it would sound like an octavio, since thats what the BOG is stans octave circuit.

Yeah, puttin' it before the fuzz'll just give you a more "traditional" octave fuzz sound.

It just really comes down to preference. It's more prominent/messy after fuzz.

I like messy.
