microphone into Multi-effect

I have enough material for an album, a solo project which is instrumental guitar with lots of effects etc. I have been contemplating adding vocals to it, but I don't want clean, I want kinda death metal growls...but I'm also thinking id like to get that from a pedal rather than doing it myself as I want to it to sound inhuman.

I was thinking about getting a XLR to 1/4 converter and getting something like a Boss GT8...plugging the microphone into the multi unit and adding distortion/fuzz to my vocals and from there plug the unit into an amp.

I'm not fussed about recording software etc, as I need something I can do live with using the same setup and an amp, I'm not really looking to DI it either. Live and recording I would use an amp for my vocals, call me stupid...I just prefer a setup like that.

the other option I've seen is the Eventide Mixinglink, which I guess I could use some spare fuzz pedals and reverb/delay pedals with it.

anyway...what do you guys think? is it possible? any other non-complicated options?

Digitech made the Vocal 300 that did pretty OK Deathy vocals for those sore throat nights for some of my friends back in the day. You can't tell through a PA with the band, anyway.
