I have an EHX Flanger Hoax. It's the best, but it's not everybodies cup of fur.

Without an Through Zero sweep, the A/DA Flanger tops most flangers in my opinion.
If unobtainable, Paul Gilberts A/DA died and he endorsed an Ibanez one in it's place, although I have no experience with it.

Supposedly the gilbert airline flanger is close to the a/da (as scruffie mentioned he's a big fan).
Plus the take off switch looks pretty damn cool.

I keed, I keed.
I love flangers of many different flavors and have three different ones that I use for different applications.
DOD FX72 is my favorite bread-and-butter flanger
EHX Stereo Electric Mistress for when I want ball-bearing-down-a-drain-pipe metallic sounds
EHX Flanger Hoax for through-zero jet swoosh.

The Stereo Electric Mistress actually sounds quite lush to me... the Filter Matrix is definitely very metallic, but you'd get the same effect with any Flanger doing that.

Yeah, I'd get a XO Electric Mistress if they had a seperate rate control for the chorus part.

There's a Flanger by Ibanez called "Swell Flanger".... it's yellow.... and it's rad.

I've actually been looking for one of those.

I use a Maxon FL-9 and an EHX reissue Polychorus. I think both rule, although the Poly can be very metallic sometimes. It's definitely good for the crazy, robot-talking-feedback annihilation stuff. The FL-9 is a lot milder. The only issue I have with it is a very slight volume drop. Its really only a problem in extreme high gain situations. For a great all around flange/chorus it rules.

I was playing around with my Stereo Mistress today. I remember loving the pants off this thing. But when I tried it just now, I don't know it didn't do it for me. It sounded okay on cleans but for a Flanger it did kind of suck with Distortion. It sounded a bit better run into the amp instead of after by Big Muff, but the effect just sounds too gimmicky. It has this weird "Flubby" kind of effect. It's nice and unique and you'll get some fun sounds out of it... but I'm not sure. I think I liked it because it was less like a Stereotypical whooshy flanger, but it still has that problem most flangers have, it's not very transparent, at all.
The other problem is that it has this weird effect... it kind of boosts some upper mid frequencies in an uncomfortable way. I suppose it was to try and counter the muddiness and have it cut better but it doesn't work out like that.
The Chorus is okay but it's a bit muddy and indistinct and kind of similar to the Flanger.
I'm unsure but I might end up selling it. I don't really think Flanger is my thing. When I first got it I prefered it to my Moon phaser for modulation because it sounded more "Wet"... but the Moon Phaser also has that "fwubby" sound and is much more transparent, sparkly and natural...
