Ran into a few demos & became pretty intrigued:

The price point is not so intriguing, tho

I have one pre-ordered! Can't wait for this to be released.

Sweet jesus.... I need a decent synth sound module to use with my midi controller. Everything is so damn expensive.

seems pretty reasonably priced, no?

looks fricken awesome...reminds me of a fully featured and not ridiculous version of this:

Probably? I want to believe. But as a standalone unit, it's out of my range a la the recent Elektron offerings (not to say that either of those aren't worth the price of admission, but to my feeble brain they are out of the ballpark). What the GR-1 does is sounds pretty phenomenal so far, at least for someone like me who prefers to work apart from a (mostly) digital workspace (same reason why I'll always pine for but never buy an OTO machine device on principle because $$$). Could I nearly get there with a slew of plug-ins and a puter? Probably, but that's just not happening. Given the funds, I'd probably go for a Lyra 8 instead with that kind of dough (again, just how my brain works, because $ynth money) but I'll be totally happy for years with a Yamaha FB-01 & a Keystep through a Pladask Fabrikat (a future that seems the most likely of all).

Great stuff! I really like the visualization/screen action and that slider. Reminds me of the LED row on the Sonic Crayon Nautilus. Seems like it will only process pre-recorded samples (?)

^ Isn't that the basis of all granular synthesis? I'm not asking insincerely. I've always understood granular synthesis to be purely based around pre-recorded sample manipulation, not real-time inputs, whereas other uses of the term "granular" (for other gear and concepts, outside of granular synthesis) are likely used in different context, often simply because "granular" is one of those impressive marketing words that gets people's attention (mine included).

Anyway, I'm not even going to fucking watch these videos. They'll just make me sad. $999 is way the fuck out of my price range for gear, too.

Yup correct but that's also the case for delay and reverb and chorus/flanging. Audio must be recorded to a memory buffer. My point with the GS-1 is that it doesn't have an audio input for live recording to it's memory buffers

Gawd--late on the uptake per usual, but this thing is spectacular. Kinda wish this had been around a few years back when I was obsessed with Clouds/Rings/Elements.... :picard:

coupleonapkins, I think a rig with a Yamaha FB-01 & a Keystep through a Pladask Fabrikat would be fully legit. I'll most likely end up with something similar (already packing the FB-01 :joy:). And I am anxiously awaiting Fabrikat :snax:

This has not stopped me from scheming on edge-logic paths to a GR-1 :trippy:

Nor will it stop me from also scooping up an Orange Omec Teleport and running my shite through Borderlands Granular :idk:

I'm so interested in this, but trying to spend less money on synths (and much more tempted to get the Dreadbox Medusa). For now, the granular synth in Reason is satisfying my big, ambient, granular pad needs

That thing does LOOK really nice, but for that price I don't see why you wouldn't just buy a small laptop, Max, and a nanokontrol or similar. The latest version of Max even has a built-in "granular oscillator" sub-module, so you basically don't even have to know what you're doing haha. Granular is all about the samples you put into it anyway.
