What you guys think of a variatone circuit in a guitar equiped with humbucker? Work great with fuzz?

Is the selector in a Seymour Duncan Tweak Fuzz basically a varitone?

Edit: whoops i saw fuzz and my mind went elsewhere

I scored a THD Quintet pedal crazy cheap years back. It's basically a tricked out Variatone with a bypass foot switch and a pot between the circuit and ground to vary the intensity of the shaping. Uber handy for tone tweaking in front of fuzzes that insist on being first.

Definitely look through all of Joe's tone control experiments at Tonefiend.com because there is something to be said for each approach. Bass knob ala G&L, Fender TBX, and various purchased and DIY Varitones in there.

Not quite. The switch varies the value of the input coupling cap from the traditional big Fuzz Face cap with woofy bass down to small values for tighter, skinnier sounds. The coupling cap passes frequencies above a roll-off frequency. Smaller cap, higher frequency.

The Varitone is a set of switchable passive frequency notches that uses an inductor to help maintain the specificity of the notch. Which is handier than you would think, from clean to dirty.
