I'm looking for bitcrusher pedal recommendations. Also preferably something in the $100-$200 price range. The <a href="http://www.catalinbread.com/Heliotrope.html">Helitrope</a> looks sweet but their order page is down and says that they won't be back for a couple months. Some DBA pedals also look sweet but are pricey! Any of your wonderful suggestions would be appreciated! I should also mention that I want a pedal with more knobs to tweak than Devi's 'Bit: Legend of Fuzz."

Heliotrope isn't quite a bitcrusher, but it does some interesting bit crushy stuff.
The cbread ordering page works for me...try contacting their customer service? Or try a dealer like tonefactor.com

It's a desktop unit.
You'll need a tb loop, but you get more stuff than just a bit crusher with the bitrman.

Oh yea...I had no interest in this pedal when it was first announced (the original demos were awful) but there have been some very good gas inducing demos lately.

Personally I'm saving for a geiger counter in the hopes that it does stuff like that, but for the $150-ish range the cbread looks nice.

That video is rather GAS inducing! Thanks for sharing.

This makes me gas for Josh to get that Holley Erectus going, but I'm sure it won't be out until his two new delays, the bigger reverb, and some modular synth devices are out...so way too long.

If you can find a Bugbrand bit crusher, they are very nice. I had the microcrusher, just a one knob job, but I sold it after buying a mid-fi proto that does some bit-crushy ring moddish stuff, somewhat similar to the heliotrope.

It may take me a little longer than I plan (just because things can and will go wrong), but I may have something to unveil within a few weeks from now.

What exactly is meant by "Bit Crushing"? It doesn't sound like it has a solid foundation in signal theory...

It is taking an analog signal, converting it to digital, and then removing the actual bits. Sample rate reduction tends to go hand-in-hand with it, taking down the frequency of the converters sample clock to give you even lower-fi tastyness.
