Idea for a boring box - does it exist already?

I have this idea for a box that has send/return loop, master volume cut/boost and maybe a buffer at the output. It comes from the fact that I have a dizzytone which doesn't really have a proper volume (the balance control affects the bias of one of the Qs iirc) but has a lot of cool sounds that are either too quiet or too loud to be useful.

Does somebody make a box like that in the bass world? Would it be an easy thing to do on vero?

I was thinking something smaller, no footswitch.

Why not just use a clean boost pedal after it? Or do you need a dry/wet mixer for your clean signal unclear from your original post). In either case I think this would be a very simple diy project.

As Pladask asks, it sounds like you just want a boost pedal at the end of your chain. All "boosts" are just buffers with variable volume.

You could just built a boost circuit with a volume knob into an enclosure with no footswitch, and you'll be good to go. Send/Return would be easy to wire up, but since you won't want a footswitch it means that the Input will just be hard-wired to the Send, and the Return will be hard-wired to the boost/buffer. So basically, you'll have a clean boost with two extra jacks that are just connected to eachother, which seems unnecessary.

You can also get someone to mod in a tiny boost into the pedal with a volume knob. But if you want, hit me up and I can throw together something for you on the cheap.

I think bartimeus is right in that the fx loop seems unnecessary with no footswitch. Would make more sense to add an fx loop in the dizzy tone if you weren't adding the stomp.

I'm gonna nitpick a bit, but as to whether a boost will buffer, that depends on the input and output impedance of the boost. It will be louder, yes, but not necessarily buffered.

The idea is less about the dizzy tone and more about putting a clean blend/volume control on a run of pedals.

Xotic X Blender would do that. Bit expensive and does have a bypass stomp. You will have a hard time finding what you are asking for without the bypass switch

[pimping my own warez]

i do a box that kinda do that (copilot fx portal), it has send/return loop with polarity switch for the phase of the loop, also there is a clean path with independent volume (both volumes can boost and/or cut, so you can have the balance you choose, and the boost is post so it wont push whats on the loop just make it louder or quieter), you can add clean blend/mix which is also exp/cv controllable, and you can select (via toggle) if the loop or the dry is synced to the mix/range knob or not (so you can also run both signals in parallel running them 100%, instead of a mix of both).

Yeah, I thought it would have probably have to be a DIY/custom jobbie. The reason I'm against it having a FS is to keep the size down, tuck it out of the way at the top of or underneath a board.

That sounds like a really well thought-out utility box, definitely along the right kind of lines

The daft thing is, I'm thinking this would be a great pedal for bass and I don't even play bass :)*

These are all really cool ideas - I’m a big fan of the LS-2 but am kind of waiting for a smaller/simpler version to really blow me away. Like it’s super useful but also kind of just too much sometimes, and last time I was at my jam space I was thinking “how much difference does the clean blend actually make?” when I could have another pedal, but maybe that’s just an indication I have too many amps, no way am I getting lost in the mix with my rig.....
