GAJA fuzz

Hey fuzzheads,

long time reader first time poster and all that drek.
Got a weird little fuzz pedal I picked up second-hand (tho more like 4th or 5th hand) a half-year ago. Never heard of it and could not find a single thread about it online.
Opened up the back plate and it would suggest that there are at least 80 of them floating about. Didn't recognize the creator's scribble either.

Would appreciate any information I could get!
Pictures enclosed.

Interesting. :snax:

there're apparently at least 83 of 'em. :idk:

How's it sound?

The controls labelled "pinch" and "EQ" immediately make me think of a Woolly Mammoth clone. Maybe with an added "mids" control?

Low res pic.. I only see one tranny and it looks like the subs switch may be a bass cap toggle. Link a higher res pic maybe? :) I'm intrigued as well

Edit: looks like a mastotron..

didn't get a great shot of the insides and have since passed the pedal on to my best mate (keeping the mystery box in the family, so to speak).
Will get him to send me another one.
The pinch is definitely some sort of gate/starve. Could never tell if the mids were cutting or boosting when I turned it up :p

Sound wise was pretty interesting. the subs added a weird bass resonance that showed up more when used in front of other drives than on its own. Pretty low-gain till about 10 o'clock. Eq range wasn't massive.

Anyone recognize the signature>?

Don't recognize the signature, but the builder used a dd/mm/yy date format on the backplate. Which may give a clue as to where they're from. Unless they're American and just fond of writing it that way. :idk:

Could be a Serbian guy named Borislav Gajic. He used to post over at freestompboxes. I think he asked me a few times to post gutshots to trace for clones.

Interesting to hear about Borislav. Tried a google but I couldn't access his freestompboxes feed without an account - know a website link or something? It's like a magical mystery muff, the allure is high!

90% sure it's a mastotron.

It says “Dope FX”

According to effects database the builder goes by many different company names.

Might be the same thing as the "Boba Fuzz."

Wiz finds, fuzzers!
The boba fuzz certanly looks the part, and my friend says it sounds mastatron-inspired for sure.

Also; I think you're onto it about the 'dopefx' in the middle of the backplate!
But frag me if I didn't think that was a bunch of letters and numbers...
