In the midst of my current dirt search, I decided to give my Katana's effects a serious shot. Turns out its octave fuzz sounds pretty bangin' on lower gain, and it actually cleans up fairly well with volume (for people who care about that). That + effects loop + Katana fxfloorboard for deep customization should keep me happy for a long time.

I also really like Line 6's Boost Comp model. I wish it came in a more convenient package than the M series.

I've been wanting to try out the newer Source Audio digital dirt pedals. The demos always sound good. I've yet to try any out in person and see how they handle, but the idea of being able to customize presets and stack multiple drives together is pretty cool. I'd love to dive into the editing software and see what kind of parameters you can mess with. Being able to customize tone stack style and EQ points would be especially of interest.

Eivind added some digital dirt in post production to one of my bass tracks on our last album. Don't remember which track it was, but I rember it did make it sound cooler. BitQuest dirty ring mod is also featured on the album (the track called Pew Pew), and I think that sounds pretty sick. The dirty pitch shifter on the BQ is rad too!

A little snooty but the Strymon Sunset is surprisingly flexible and natural sounding for a digital drive pedal. It has an analog front end which probably makes a big difference.

As far as I can tell, the Katana's effects are just GT series effects except for a few new ones. So they might just sound like a GT-1 into another amp?

Electro-Faustus Guitar Disruptor is a prime example of digital dirt not trying to sound like analog dirt. More builders should explore stuff like that. Also, they just announced a souped up version!

I've had mine for eight months or so and still find it useful enough it hasn't left the loop I put it in initially.

As far as handing and sound, it's stupid good. It does gritty and odd as well as straight dirt stuff - if I want something specific but don't want to *buy* one, it's close enough most of the time.

And oddball stuff like the HM-2 tone stack on a Klon? Sure...you can.

Same as the ones in the GT, just a few are refined versions thereof (and it's minor, minor, minor).

Should add that the Katana is even more crippled than the GT-1 in what it has overall however.

Thanks, that's awesome. The built in amp/pedal emulations in Logic X aren't fantastic, but I have used my DAW to play with pedal/rig designs a lot in the past. Down to EQ points, types of clipping, signal flow ideas. I find it incredibly cool to be able to mix and match and tweak little parameters like that. It definitely inclines me a bit more towards trying one of these out.

Basically, it's got a very good para EQ section - the only real caveat is it's one per patch (not per each engine per patch), which I haven't found an issue with.

And you can select what the various knobs on the physical thing do as well - so it's tweakable like an analog one.

Yeah, I like my Katana but it's bizarre how much GT functionality they removed/how little control they give you. If FXfloorboard didn't exist I might have flipped it already.

It's a stripped down chip, just like the GT-1 is stripped down from the 100/001.
