I've always loved playing them when they were around and after listening to Botanist for a bit I think I finally want to get one.

Anyone familiar with them in terms of reputable makers, sizing, etc. I'm in the dark in terms of what to look for.

No duh! :p

I meant, "how do you wanna play it"? In what context? Are you gonna be running it through pedals? With a band? Does it actually need to be a hammered dulcimer or can it be a related instrument? Stuff like that.

I dig these guys:

That shit was tight.

I really love the sound of acoustic instruments like hammered dulcimers. I'd really be playing it cause it makes me feel good and calm, meditative. I'd likely try and run it through some effects or incorporate it into material.

not that it's the same thing but I always thought the Lap dulcimer was pretty dope,
back when I played alot of gospel/bluegrass style stuff I played with a guy who played lap dulcimer and it was a very good time

Hammered dulcimer rules.

Never got botanist, though. Should be right up my alley, but alas. :(
