Best small practice amp?

Any suggestions for a good practice amp that I can record with when I'm too lazy to lug the 4x12 upstairs?

Like $300 and under ideally. Fender Champ or Traynor TS-25 comes to mind, but there's gotta be more out there.

depends on what sort of sound you're going after. also, what's available on the used market.

gotta reign in the options with some criteria here!

Those Traynors are secksy. Never played one though.

Don't know what they go for, but depending on what kinda tone you're after; The tiny terror combos sound surprisingly cool. Fwiw, made in the UK if I'm not mistaking. Loaded with a marvelous G12H30, and there's the 7/15watt power option.

Tea the old traynor solid state stuff is very liked. I have got an old peavey rage tho and it sounds killer even if its just a tiny 8" thing

I love my TS-25. So much that I keep it at the rehearsal space, and not at home. Gonna mod it so I can hook ut up to bigger cabs when I want that lovely tranny-Traynor crunch through a 412 or 215. :D

For Fender sounds the Champ 40 is a good steal. You want British flavor get a Vox Pathfinder 15 (15R for reverb). Also, Peavey Bandit. Good sleeper.

I really like my katana. I haven't tried anything on it except the clean and crunch channels, the eq section, and the reverb. I almost wish it didn't have more than that just because I like simple things, but whatever. It sounds great.

Like you said, hard to beat a Fender Champ. It's about as loud as you would ever be able to realistically play in an apartment/home with more than one person living there. Plus it sounds ace.

The Katana seems like a great choice for a modern practice amp. Probably has a little more mileage than a super low wattage tube amp and won't break the bank either. Line out could be good for recording too.

The Boss Katana series.

Tube amps are not practice amps and I don't care what anyone says.

I've done all my recording through my Katana 50 and stacks of pedals. The clean channel is pretty good, USB out is fucking convenient. I find all of the drive modelling to be pretty terrible though, so ymmv. But a Big Muff, some reverb, and the EQ all at noon? Fucking great in my book.

Kinda tempted to grab the 100w 2x12 model for live use, but I'll probably find something else to play with first.

Old solid state is preferred. I love using my dad's old peavey audition 20, but it really hates pedals.

My big rig is basically a plexi-ish amp and a 4x12. I'd like to practice like that but on a smaller, crappier scale if that makes any sense..
