In defense of dinosaurs and by extension an argument against modular, one could argue, that humans haven't evolved to the point of surviving a large rock falling on our heads either.

But maybe modular would allow us to survive meteor strikes; we won't know either way until it's too late. So now we're in a chicken-or-the-velociraptor-egg problem.
Maybe Xenu smote the dinosaurs because they sucked at patching eurorack.
