Practice amp recommendations

With a new baby in the house, I’m thinking it might be a good idea to pick up a smaller amp, to be able to plug in and play quietly. (I can turn the bigger amp -a 100+ watt AIMS head thru an Ampeg-6x10- down to a safer level, but I’m concerned I’ll accidentally bump a volume knob and inflict some serious damage. (My daughter’s ears are still in mint condition!)

SO, any good ILF recommendations on a small combo amp that sounds good at indoor/‘bedroom’ volumes? Tubes are a plus, but not a requirement (I was wondering about one of the little solid state Orange amps since they’re so affordable.) My $$ ceiling’s probably around $350. What say you??

Lots of reasonably tempered hype surrounding the reasonably priced Katanas. I like mine.

I post about it all the time but I am really satisfied with my Orange Crush 35R. The 35 and 20? watt ones have 412 cabinet emulation on the headphone out. I used it Direct In on my demos and for recording. The stock speaker is great, and I have even gigged with it a couple times for smaller venues and it keeps up with a drummer just fine.

And guitar in this video through the Crush as well: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PN9eC2NS3e4

There are definitely other options out there. Boss Katana. And Vox has these new tiny amp heads with Korg's nutube technology that are very impressive plugged through a good cabinet.

Boss Katana, it's the one I'd get if I didn't have a Twin and a big house for myself.

I'm not much of a guitar player, nor do i have a ton of experience with guitar amps. But, I picked up a Vox VT40X a year or 2 ago. Sounds pretty good for the bedroom.

I have a VT20 at home, lovely thing. If I did it now though, would definitely go katana.

I recently got a VHT Special 6 (5w, tube, supposedly a 5e3-type amp?) and I'm digging it but even at 5w it's damn loud. I can't really crank it into drive in my apartment.

I really like the Yamaha THR10C. I think there's some magic in having stereo speakers. It sounds good using just the knobs on top. The effects are just fine for messing around. With the computer editor, you can customize the sounds and save them as presets.

I’d recommend the Fender Excelsior Pro. 13W tube combo with a 15” speaker. Simple controls, just volume and a bright/dark switch. Comes with a nice sounding tremolo too although I rarely use it. Sounds great for the price IMO. Around $300 used.

Katana 50. Ran some synth through mine today. Low end did not disappoint. I'd say it's my favorite purchase of the year. Next to my El Cap I guess :idk:

Damn, I came here to say VT20 and left wondering if I should get a Katana.
