Do I need a delay ?

My stand currently holds a Syntax Error (which does a degree of delay), a BitQuest (which does lots of things including some wonderfully wacky delays), a CSIDMAN (glitchy) and Obscura (Lo-Fi).

Today I received two new beauties, a Count To Five and a Red Panda Particle.

So should I get a delay, or am I ok without ?

Effect pedals are, by in large, used by folks who can't play their instruments in an effort to make their crappy music sound more interesting and to cover up mistakes and sloppy playing. Your money is probably better spent on lessons, tbh.

Not meant as a troll post !

Just a little bit of humour was what I intended, suggesting that maybe I've more than is absolutely necessary.

which was what I hoped to convey with the wink at the bottom.

You're ok without. Delay is for nerds.

CSIDMAN works well as a standard delay. I like it that way better than its intended use

Practical answer to the OP: I think you're good.

ILF Response: I mean, you don't have a Deluxe Memory Man... :poke:

OP: Yeah buy a delay. Get a dedicated cheap delay like a used DD5 or 7 or something so the other stuff can be wacky and you can dial it in as a "Delay" I have a DD5 I've had for years and it always finds a place in my signal chain despite the other 6 things I have that do delay as well.

Digital Delay pedals that just do delay are basically free on reverb (IMO) and plentiful. I mean they do other things, but not like some of the other things you have listed, which are better tasked doing the nutty stuff.

I'll close by saying that I'm a straight up gear hoarder, and I find a use for everything, but I honestly don't think I've ever seen someone say "Dammit, I have too many delays.. what should I do? Kill myself or sell some?"

Buy one

$65 for a DD6.. yeah basically free

Not sure if I'll ever build a board without delay. I like it much more than reverb. That said, the pedals you listed should cover you.

A lot of your delays have the 'whacky' voice (I'm generalizing). I have a lot of those delays myself but I keep a couple Boss DD products around. I don't think any of your delays have stereo outs which can be useful. Delays are voiced differently so I find it helpful to have a lot laying around.

So I would say snag a DD whatever on the used market for anywhere between $50 - $100.

I have plenty of delays myself but I keep looking at used deluxe memory boys because of all the features (namely an fx loop) that can be had for $100 used.

So you don't 'need' one but IF you where going to 'get one' I would reference the above.

Also, Handsome Nora, I use effects to exacerbate my shitty playing. We've talked about this. I use delays to make is ADAMANTLY clear I fucked up a note. The more repeats the better. Delay is the shame chamber of pedals.

Yeah obviously it was a joke. The original post was a joke, so why not contribute? And for anyone who has ever heard my music, it is obvious I don't care how sloppy it is (very sloppy) and I use lots of effects, most notably delay pedals. So yeah.
